BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) — A cool spring day is in store across the region as temperatures are trending about 10 degrees below our average high of 62. A low pressure system is moving through the Pacific Northwest and brought an associated cold front through the region early this morning. The cooler temperatures from this storm will be felt over the next few days as temperatures are expected to remain below average through the middle of the week.
Moving through the middle of April we're approaching a point in the season where we often don't see temperatures drop below a critical hard freeze temperature of 28 degrees Fahrenheit. On average, the Boise area will have its last hard freeze around April 19 each year. Historical data also shows that our last freeze date is usually around May 8 each year. Below is a graph that breaks down historical freeze and hard freeze dates for Southwest Idaho and Eastern Oregon, the graph is from the National Weather Service office in Boise.
Another weak disturbance that is slated to impact our weather Wednesday night into Thursday this week but most of the moisture will slide south of our region. Otherwise, models are showing a warmup for the region that will likely carry us into the low 70's by the weekend. In fact, the latest long range computer models (8-14 outlook) suggest that would could be looking at warmer and drier than average weather conditions beyond this week. Like many of you, I'm looking forward to the sunshine and warmer temperatures, lets hope the forecast holds true. For the latest updates on the forecast visit: idahonews.com/weather.
